ODE TO JOEL

My brother, my brother,
where hast thou gone --
the laughter, the jokes, the music?
You passed through the gates before me,
but left love and smiles behind.
I miss you more and more
with each passing day.
I'll carry you in my heart
throughout all time --
until at last we meet again.

"A golden heart stopped beating,
He's now at peaceful rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best."

There is a time for tears.
When your heart is
too full of sorrow,
they begin to flow,
as naturally
as rain from heaven.
There is a beauty in tears,
a rightness about them.
They should be
shed proudly,
for they show how much
you have lived
and loved and lost.
Tears honor our loved ones.
There is a sacredness
about them.
Each one is a prayer
that only God can hear.
The soul could have
no rainbows
if our eyes could have
no tears.

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories were a lane,
I would walk right up to heaven
to bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken,
no time to say goodbye,
you were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
My heart still aches in sadness,
and secret tears still flow,
what it meant to lose you,
no one can begin know.
